Dr. Hew Len saved this book!

Since 2013, I've been attracted to the Ho'oponopono philosophy and in the process began research on it since last year. I've picked up on a few Youtube pages as well as a few books on this subject. And now this book. I bought this book (on discount) because I wanted to know more about this philosophy. Don't get me wrong, this book has some very good advice by Dr. Hew Len. However, within the first couple of pages of the book, the author's true revelation is shown (he's an author, businessman, sold audio and DVD's, lost weight, interviewed with big names in the entertainment industry, etc). My impression on Mr. Vitale was a little off to says the least and I would agree with a comment made by another individual who reviewed this book, "Bad story telling".

Through out the book Mr. Vitale makes subtle hints advertising his websites, and accomplishments which, in my opinion, drowns out the actual reason for him seeking out Dr. Hew Len. Mr. Vital certainly has the money to seek out the good Dr., make a few conferences using the Hoʻoponopono. There's a chapter filled with emails from individual who attended the small conferences made up of lawyers, business people, psychologist, and people who make a very substantial income. I feel as though he sort of used Dr. Hew Len to upgrade his own business and entrepreneurship even future. . Or maybe it was just me wanting more from this book than what the title actually shows.

I love Ho'oponopono but I couldnt make it through this book. He is so long winded! I just wanted to know what Ho'oponopono was and how to implement it....he goes on and on taking you through an excruciatingly long journey about how HE discovered Ho'oponopono. Try
'the Easiest Way to Live.." by Mabel Katz or "HO'OPONOPONO SECRETS" by Paul Jackson for a much more understandable and to the point description of this technique.

A powerful idea written with too many words

I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, the simplicity of the underlying idea is very appealing. The philosophy behind cleaning your mind from memories (knowledge, experiences, preconceived ideas,etc.) to open it up for inspiration (state of zero limits) seems not only credible but desirable. Besides, there are lots of testimonials that make you believe it does work.

However, on the other hand, the main idea could have been explained in 30 or so pages. There are a lot of passages that are useless (including the promotion of Mr. Vitale's previous books and businesses spread throughout the entire book)). In my opinion, Dr. Vitale spends a lot of time and ink to stretch the idea into a complete book (the story about the healing of the Hawaiian State Hospital mental patients, for example, is told several times throughout the book).

In my opinion, the book has a powerful idea that could have been written in a more shorter and concise way.

About the Author
Thompson is Professor of Biblical Studies at Asbury Theological Seminary.

Kay Thompson (1909-1998) was a singer, dancer, vocal arranger, and coach of many MGM musicals in the 1940s.

Thanks, Thompson!

This is an old tried-and-true classic. The typeface is ugly, but the information is accurate and lucid. Rule page references and further discussions of the rules is very helpful. It is impossible to give all permutations of each translation, but where practical, Thompson makes notes on variations in the way a sentence can be translated. I have used it for years for myself and for my students.

Irreplaceable Reference

No study guide is perfect, but this one comes close enough to get 5 stars from me.

It appears that my copy was printed in 1980, there may have been updates since then to correct errors in the answer key, but the information below is based on my personal copy (which I suspect many others have).

pp 236 Lesson 10.I problem 12: Plural "you" and "your" should be singular ("thou" and "thy").
pp 236 Lesson 10.I problem 14: Plural "you" again instead of singular "thy."
pp 236 Lesson 10.II problem 8: παρ' is not introduced until lesson 11. May be able to use simple genitive, instead.
pp 237 Lesson 11.II problem 8: γαρ should be ὁτι, ἁμαρτιων should be ἁμαρτιας, and missing ἡμων.
pp 237 Lesson 11.II problem 9: τουτο should be τουτον.
pp 246 Lesson 22.I a large part of problems 16 (end) and 17 (beginning) are missing.
pp 246 Lesson 22.I problem 20: "are" should be "were."

I am sure that there are others that I missed, and I know that there are some that I am unsure about. As I discover more, I will try to remember to update the comments for this post.

I purchased this book to use with my adult students. My students are learning to read. Many of them have never studied the American Revolution. They didn't know that women fought in the war with the men. It was a good way to reinforce some reading skills in an interesting format.

A trade version was produced as a hardbound book with dust jacket. However, this copy is one of the special editions produced for the Museum of Modern Art. This facsimile is similar to the original and consists of unbound, loose signatures which are enclosed a white folio with title, see above. The entire folio is further enclosed in a grey clamshell box with blue cloth spine. Matisse's original text, handwritten in French, has been translated by Sophie Hawkes, with an Introduction by Riva Castleman. Includes the original protective cardboard slipcase. A fair copy. Special shipping will be required at extra cost.

One of the Best Art Books You Will Ever Own!!!

I'm amazed that this is the first review of this particular edition of Jazz, by Henri Matisse for, this book published in 1984 by George Braziller, Inc. of New York is one of the coolest art books you will ever own. It is essentially an elephant folio reproduction of the original edition book as published by Teriade (publisher of the iconic art journal Verve) in 1947. In fact, Braziller borrowed copy number 43 to create the reproduction.
Jazz, the book, is a series of exquisite, garish paper cut-outs created by Henri Matisse during a convalesce in Southern France in the early years of the Second World War although the book itself was not published until 1947 in an edition of 250 copies.
By now many of the most iconic images from the book have entered our modern vernacular with images such as the depiction of Icarus, as seen on the cover, being sold in museum stores the world round.
The original book is a series of musings by the artist accompanied by numerous cut-outs many evoking the circus. George Braziller's book includes a forward by the critic, author and art historian Riva Castleman followed by an English language translation of the original text and then the facsimile of the original text and images all in approximately 160 pps. As stated this is an enormous book measuring something like 12" x 16", and the production values are of the highest level as might be expected of an art book printed and bound in Germany. The paper, possibly wove, is very thick, high quality cream colored and so thick that it approaches something like Arches. The reproductions are NOT off-set lithography and so the images aren't marred by the small ink dots characteristic of off-set lithography. In fact, they have the look and feel of a linocut or woodblock print and faithfully reproduce the original artwork/book.
I highly recommend this book to anybody who enjoys high quality 'coffee table' art books.
Please note that this review is of the First Trade Edition, hardbound, elephant folio issue. This book proved so popular that it was reprinted in various formats by various other publishers, but this 1984 edition is far superior to any subsequent efforts.

So many editions - be careful

5 stars only if you get the right edition! Be careful regarding the actual size of the copy you are buying. If you are paying $60 on up you should be getting the full size 1983 edition printed 15"x12". That is the best quality edition, printed in Germany, pub by Braziller. The Amazon description on this page shows a smaller 6"x9" size. Search ISBN #0807610755 to see listings for the 1983 edition printed in English, and then verify the size you are buying. There are so many smaller size editions of this title that unless the size is stated you should ask.

I have the orginal limited to 1275 copy of this book it is interesting to anyone who wants to understand the insanity of the witch hunt in this country and europe.The author desribes in detail the way one was tested to be a witch and the vocabulary is plain and easy to understand for all.A must for all occult collectors!

the mind of an inquisitor

Henry Boguet would have been considered an intellectual in his time; ironically, he was also intellectually crippled by his faith. This is a phenomenon that we still often see over 400 years later: the devout embedded within spiritual communities that provide intense emotional comfort at tragic intellectual cost. Tune into any political talk show and you'll see the fallacious reasoning employed by Boguet still being used today. This book is a must-read for anyone interested in medieval (and modern) thought!

A Fascinating Foray into Witchery!

From early in his preface, Boguet linked witches and other magical manifestations with the strange and wonderful: "Now I do not gainsay that the stories told of witches are very strange; for there is matter for much wonder ..." In this case, wonder for Boguet encompassed many qualities ranging from the standard crimes of which witches were accused-attending the Sabbath, practicing maleficia, making a pact with the Devil, and changing shapes-to the more atypical aspects, such as the Franc-comtois werewolves and zombies. His witches and witchcraft were thus broad categories, acting as catchall terms for what he perceived as abnormal and perverse.

This is an absolutely indispensible read for the Occult or Wiccan Scholar!
