About the Author
Laurie Schneider Adams received a Ph.D. in Art History from Columbia University. She is Professor Emerita of Art History at John Jay College, City University of New York, where she taught art survey, and at the Graduate Center, where she taught courses on the Italian Renaissance and on Art and Psychoanalysis. She has published articles on iconography and on art and psychology. She is the editor of Giotto in Perspectiveand of the journal Source: Notes in the History of Art; the author of A History of Western Art, The Methodologies of Art, Art and Psychoanalysis, and Art on Trial; and co-author (with Maria Grazia Pernis) of Federico da Montefeltro and Sigismondo Malatesta: The Eagle and the Elephant and of 5 children's books (with Allison Coudert).

An experience worth reading

The text Art Across Time: Combined Fourth Edition is truly a remarkable read. It provides fine detailed pictures with helpful captions to get the gist of what you're looking at. Each certain terminology and concept have their own separate section in a chapter for you to read in order to understand its significance in the time period. A definite recommendation towards those with Art History majors or are taking Art History courses.

This text has beautiful art, great analysis and is very educational for linking history and art. Unfortunately when I received the text (rented) the cover was completely torn off, so I needed to apply clear duct tape (it's very heavy).

Good but heavy

This is a great book for studying art history, but I wouldn't suggest getting this combined volume, it is SO HEAVY, and made studying and carrying this book around a pain! If i had it to do over, I would have chosen the separate volumes. Other than that, it's a good resource.

A treasure trove for Blacklist lovers!

Elizabeth Keen's Dossier is much more than I dared hope for. It is a rich, delving into the series told in FBI files, news clippings, photos and notes made by Special Agent Elizabeth Keen. I love the stylistic aspects – coffee cup marks on various pages, pages worn and torn, with details not included in the show. This includes additional detail on each character. Liz's notes tie the disparate elements together, written in red pen given her point of view, reflecting even the limits of her perspective, This is the voice of Liz as FBI Profiler, trying to understand the details and what Red Reddington's true intentions are. I expect to spend many hours – days, even – immersing myself in this in-depth exploration of the series I love. It's a treasure trove. It even includes (attached to the inside of the back cover) a facsimile of the envelope Tom left for Liz with the same mark that appeared on his go-box. It contains additional documents, notes and photos. Tara Bennett has called this book a "labor of love." I want to thank her and Paul Terry for this gift to fans of The Blacklist.

Wonderful companion to the series

You know the folders filled with classified files that agents throw onto the table when you're watching the TV shows. This is the folder for The Blacklist.

It's written from the point of view by Elizabeth Keen as a failsafe in case anything at "the Post Office" got hacked. She says that anything can be hacked by a handmade dossier with hard evidence like this cannot. And if you're holding this book, who knows what has already happened to Keen.

If you're fan of the TV series, prepare to spend a considerable amount of time to look through all the files which make up the pages of the book. There are photographs, handwritten notes, profiles with blacked out lines, printed documents not intended for the public, and basically all the so called evidence. You'll get to know about about the different FBI agents, the people on the blacklist, connections between all of them and there's a special section for Tom Keen.

This book is basically looking back at the shows again from inside Elizabeth Keen's head. She explains her analysis, suspicions and try to piece together the reasons for Raymond "Red" Reddington's interest in working with her.

It's a wonderful companion for the series. I recommend it to fans who want to get in deeper.

I was excited to pick this up with my birthday money. It's taken a while to read, as it is chock full of information. It gives in-depth information about each of the criminals on the Blacklist, from the t.v. show. I really enjoyed how they separated it into sections and then showed how each of the Blacklisters was important to Reddington's overall "schemes". I read it cover to cover, but I've forgotten some of the episodes, so I think it will make more sense when I read up on each character as I watch each episode over again.

Subsequent developments in the TVA program and organization have not been taken into account. But since the primary interest of the study is in theoretical considerations, the delay is not, perhaps, as consequential as it might otherwise be. On the other hand, the situation within TVA as it was in 1943 represented the close of a decade of its operation, a point to be borne in mind by those interested in TVA shistory for its own sake. The files and the personnel of the Tennessee Valley Authority were the primary sources of research data. The unpublished record has been accorded the same status as personal interview materials, so that sources and quotations cannot always be given specific reference. I have endeavored to protect the anonymity of those in and out of the Authority who have helped me to an understanding of the TVA smethods and program. At the same time, informants on questions of detail have been restricted to those within TVA who have worked on the programs discussed. A check with the written record was made wherever possible. Interviews with officials in Washington and in the Tennessee Valley states were also of assistance. It is hoped that a contribution has been made here toward the evolution of a theory of organization. In that sense, the study is not practical or programmatic. It is believed, however, that a practical relevance will be discerned by those involved in action who must take into account such general relations within an

About the Author

John Spitzer studied with Reuben Brower and Barrington Moore at Harvard, where he received his first degree. He studied musicology and ethnomusicology at Cornell University with William Austin, James Webster, Sotiros Chianis, and Bell Yung. He held a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh (1983-84), then taught at the University of Michigan (1984-87). From 1987 to 2005 he taught at the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. In 2004 he joined the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He has published scholarly articles on the history of the orchestra, American song, authorship, and authenticity, as well as music reviews and articles in newspapers, magazines, dictionaries, and encyclopedias.

Neal Zaslaw holds degrees from Harvard, The Juilliard School, and Columbia University. He is the author of more than 65 articles on baroque music, historical performance practices, Mozart, and the early history of the orchestra, as well as numerous books, including Mozart's Symphonies: Context, Performance Practice, Reception (Oxford, 1989), The Classical Era from the 1740s to the End of the 18th Century (Macmillan, 1989), and most recently, Mozart's Piano Concertos: Text, Context, Interpretation (University of Michigan Press, 1995). A member of the Akademie f�r Mozart-Forschung of the Mozarteum and the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, Zaslaw has taught at Cornell University since 1970.

A MOST THOROUGH EXAMINATION OF THE "BIRTH" OF THE ORCHESTRA!

The authors Mssrs. Spitzer & Zaslaw have been exhaustive in their research on the "Birth of The Orchestra." Even if you have studied musicology at the college level, there are many points and issues in this voluminous tome that you probably didn't cover in class as I soon found out in reading just the first few chapters. It is a history of development of the "orchestra" and the many personages and events that lead to what we are the most familiar with today. The term "Orchestra" in fact originally simply meant the assigned space where any group of musicians sat and performed. It was more a term of logistics than instrumentation. Another interesting fact is that the orchestral groupings of the late 17th and early 18th Centuries were not necessarily one of demure proportions as one might assume. Arcangelo Corelli for example had on many occasions put together instrumental groups numbering anywhere from only 9 up to almost 80 musicians depending upon the performance requirements. He also had no listing in his personnel for keyboard players meaning that he probably didn't use harpsichord/organ continuo for most of his performances.
There are many more such otherwise little known facts about how orchestral music was actually performed.
I'm still reading this book and continue to discover so much information that I would consider this single book an education in itself as far as the development of orchestral music is concerned. Do not miss owning this title!
