Abraham (Avi) Kcholi holds a bachelor of science degree in pure mathematics from the London School of Economics. He has developed time critical systems, GIS infrastructure components, and command and control systems for military and industrial automation based on Windows CE technologies since 1998, and Windows XP Embedded technologies since 2004. Some of his projects include designing medical and GIS systems for military usage and creating the 2008 classroom materials for the SPARK initiative. Avi also develops and teaches courses on Windows programming covering technologies such as MFC, COM+, .NET, and Windows Embedded.

Knowledgeable editor needed

I returned this book after an hour of reading. The book has potential, but there were too many errors, poorly formatted code, etc. to make it worth the price. When learning a new API, like the Windows Embedded Compact 7 DDK, errors in the learning material are simply unacceptable. The author appeared knowledgeable, but this reads like a first draft in need of a editor who knows CE7 and a few revisions. Given the price tag, I was unwilling to do the editorial work for the publisher to find and figure out the errors.

Technical contents actually live up to the book's subtitle - "Producing Device Drivers".
For novice WEC7 device driver developers, this book has a good amount of useful information.
However, I wished for more explanations and additional details in a number of places. For example, in Chapter 7 (The essence of stream device drivers) more explanatory texts about hDeviceContext and hOpenContext would have been nice. Also the same chapter is too light on how to write a driver that can be opened multiple times.
My main gripe about this book has to do with lack of quality control in how the code examples are printed. Specifically, in numerous places the code indentations are all messed up. They look like someone just copied and pasted in there and never looked back. I hold APress largely responsible for not providing edits and proof-reading. I'm also puzzled how the author let slip such large number of mistakes before printing.
I have bought many APress books starting in 2000. Their earlier publications were often very good in quality control. But I've seen many misses in their newer books. Today APress's business strategy seems to be to crank out many books fast, damn the quality. Or, perhaps the company has become "too big to care".

Now I believe

I am not a big believer in pop science, and I didn't read the book word for word, but it cited so many studies from so many well-regarded sources that I gave olive leaf a try...and I am now a believer. Three capsules every three hours for three days cured an infection under my dental implants.

I was dreading having to undergo the removal of these implants to get to the problem, not to mention the expense. Olive leaf truly works and will now be the first thing I reach for when I need an antibiotic.

May 30, 2014 - it's 21 days later (review was written May 9 but published May 21) ...I was a little too enthusiastic, the product DOES work but takes longer than 3 days, actually took about 14 days for me to wake up one morning and realize that even the slight tingling of pain was gone. I really think that if I stopped taking olive leaf today the infection would be back in a few days. But I am still a believer and will continue to take this stuff daily, tho I am down to 2 capsules 3X per day.

It also seems to have managed the considerable inflammation from arthritis that causes me so much grief. I have seen a clear improvement in mobility since beginning olive leaf, a benefit that was unexpected and truly beneficial. I am just amazed that taking powdered leaf each day has had this effect. I know that 90% of our meds come from plant sources, but I am surprised and delighted that taking powdered leaves each day has had such a profound effect...thank you, Mother Nature!

Very informative looked for more detailed case studies on treatment regimens provides allot of information pertaining to the olive leaf extract mechanism of action which has empowered me to have more knowledge about the bennifits of olive leaves. Some redundancy noted and not enough detailed information on treatment regimens but does give guidance on knowing if regimen is effective. Good book academic in nature.

I love having research to back up my practices. We use almost all natural cures for our illnesses these days. Done with establishment crap! Robin Hood, Knights Templar and Romance, Oh My!

Set in 12th century England (mostly, though there are scenes in the Holy Land), in the reign of King Richard the Lion Heart and his brother, Prince John, this is a romance that will win your heart.

Lord Damien Montjoy, one of Richard's faithful knights who would help the king retake Jerusalem, and one day return to England to be lord of his own castle, is rewarded by Richard for his valor with the adjoining lands of Lady Katherine ("Kat") de Montrain--and with the hand of the lady herself. Richard also wants Montjoy to secure the north of England from the wiles of his brother John. Ah, but there are legends about the forests there...Robin Hood, Little John, Friar Tuck, Lady Greensleeves and the Silver Sword!

Prince John would give Kat's hand to the evil de la Ville who will pay him richly as John is ever in need of funds. The Silver Sword, a man who once saved her father's life, arrives to save Kat from de la Ville and deliver her to Montjoy, but then the Sword takes her innocence (the way I read it, it's a forced seduction). Kat is a strong and beautiful young woman...in fact, the Lady Greensleeves herself! While she weds Montjoy, she is not happy about it as he is a nemesis from her youth. Kat hates all the men in her life: the King, Montjoy and the Silver Sword. Could she ever love such a man? ("Never!") Does she love the Silver Sword after their night of intimacy? ("No!")

But all will come right and the legends will have their day. This is really a dreamy romance with rich characters and great action. Shannon Drake (aka Heather Graham) always delivers a romance you can't put down. I only wish she had written this one as a part of a series as I did not want it to end. I recommend it.

"Damsel in Distress" is the re-release of a 1992 novel written by Shannon Drake, aka Heather Graham, now in digital. Graham must have a dozen personalities. She can write any genre, any style. She does romance, mystery, paranormal, you name it, she can write it. This e-book is a traditional romance with all of the cliches and passion that that entails. Kat is a countess who is being dealt to the highest bidder. The prince wants to give her to the evil de la Ville. King Richard gives her to Montjoy, a knight. Knight in shining armor if you will. Both Kat and Montjoy are related to Robin Hood, who plays a bit part in the book.
It almost seems there is too much going on. We have 12 Century English politics, Robin Hood, the Crusades, and the love story which is kinda attached to all of the other stories. I thought it was ok. I'm a fan of Graham, but not really of Avon romances. It is well written and well researched. A little heavy on the cliche phrases and heaving bosoms and aching desires. But some people really like heaving bosoms.

Once again Drake has managed, seemingly effortlessly, to combine historical fact, legend and romance together in a wonderful story. Revolving around the relationship between Katherine de Montrain, cousin to Robin Hood, and her guardian Damian Montjoy. This book also manages to discuss the crusades and there is a good deal about Robin Hood and his band, who are helped by the mysterious stranger 'the silver sword'. All in all a good read, although maybe not up to the standard of some of her other books eg PRINCESS OF FIRE.

About the Author

Karl Rosenkranz (1805 –1879) was a German philosopher. He followed Kant and Herbart as professor of philosophy in K�nigsberg; in 1848-49 he took part in the reform government in Berlin.

Andrei Pop is Associate Professor in the John U. Nef Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago.

Mechtild Widrich is Assistant Professor of Contemporary Art History in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, USA.
